Entrance gate to be kept locked

Open gateAs you are aware we have stated time and time again that the entrance gate must be kept locked at all times. The only time it is left open is on a Sunday when the hut is open. Please see the attached of the gate this morning.

Last Saturday one of our tenants had their bag stolen from their car on the allotment.

As a result we are putting everyone on formal notice that if you are found in breach of this request you will be given a formal written notice and any further breaches will result in your tenancy being terminated.

Please also don’t forget we are holding weekly plant sales on Sunday Mornings between  11.00am – 12.30pm.  Good Plants at Great Prices


Deadline for AGM Proposals and Nominations

A reminder that the Annual General Meeting takes place on Feb 21st this year and all nominations for new committee members and proposals for the AGM need to be submitted by this Sunday January 24th.

Committee
Do you know someone who would make a great committee member? Encourage them to put themselves forward or please put yourself forward for the committee if you would like to have a say in the way things are done.
All nominations are very welcome, we need a larger, strong committee to maintain and improve your site.
Our site is run by a team of committee members who let plots, organise events and look after the day to day running of the site. The committee works as a team and shares the responsibility for managing the allotments.
Eileen, Pete and Andy are all retiring from the committee this year after many years of valuable service to our site and our warm thanks go to them. They will need replacing!
The current Committee is made up of:-
Chair : Vice Chair : Treasurer : Secretary : Serving member officers
The current committee members would love to see some competition for their posts because new members bring new ideas and enthusiasm. If you have relevant skills and are reliable and motivated please nominate yourself.

Volunteers
If you do not want to be on the committee but want to help please sign up for the volunteer register in the hut on a Sunday morning. The list is growing slowly but we need as many as possible so there is a lesser time commitment from each person.
There are a number of jobs that need to be taken on asap such as :-
Show Manager : Social Secretary: Shop Manager : Cafe Manager

Annual Meeting 2016 Announcement

Annual General Meeting
21st February 2016
12:00 in the hut

Please attend if you can. It would be nice to see as many people as possible, new and old faces alike, getting involved with the way your society is run.

If you have any proposals for the AGM or wish to nominate anyone for the committee please let the committee know in writing by the 24th January.

Nominations need to be proposed and seconded and signed by both people.

We hope to see you there in your winter woollies: the hut is cold.


Special notice

Following a meeting of the Allotment main committee held on Sunday last it has been decided that the 2015 Annual Show will be limited to the Inside Vegetable Show plus additional refeshments.

This is due to work scheduled to commence on the Car Park and the relocation of toilet Facilities. Once this work has been completed we will be in much better shape for Shows in future years.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all those who have helped during this year on preparation for the Show.


The Show must go on

We have just opened a can of worms and the lid won’t go back on. Our allotment show (the stalls rather than the veg show) is a market according to Manchester Council and we are therefore subject to the rules and fees this carries. It may be prohibitive to carry on in it’s present guise, but this is something that needs to be discussed by anyone interested in the show.
Please come along to a meeting at 8 p.m. in the Bluebell Inn on Wednesday 17th June so we can make some decisions.

Open gardens and plant sale today from 11.30am

It’s Open Gardens this Sunday. Phil and Clare will be doing show rounds at 11.30 am and 1 pm, where the public (if they have a programme) can look around the allotment and ask questions. 
Money raised will go towards getting the show together in August.
I hope you enjoy the day. You can join the show rounds for free if you are a plot holder, and I have had a sneak preview of Bob’s plants – they are sensational!! You won’t be able to resist.

Constitution consultation meeting, 14th June, Society Hut

At the AGM the members voted to hold a consultation on the new constitution before we have anther vote to decide on the constitution.  This consultation meeting will take place on the 14th June in the hut at 12.30.  All members are encouraged to come along to share their ideas or just listen to the discussion.  The constitution might seem a bit dull but it’s very important because it describes how the society should be run.  It’s important that our constitution is useful, up-to-date and reflects the diversity of our allotment site.  This meeting will be friendly and informal and will give everyone a chance  to chat about their ideas, ask questions and listen to other people’s views.

The purpose of this consultation meeting is just to collect ideas and listen to everyone’s thoughts on the constitution.  Then we can either address the issues raised or present an amendment at the general meeting (this will happen at a later date).  The discussions will be friendly and straightforward and you don’t need to know anything about allotment rules to take part.

Pond Site Party for plot holders, Friday 5th June

All plot holders are very welcome to come along and have a good time on the pond site on our allotment.  This will be a chance to get to know other plot holders and have a good time.  Bring food and drink and happiness.

7 p.m. start. If you’re not sure where the pond site is ask a fellow plot holder, pop in the hut on Sunday or contact Mary through our Facebook Group.

Please note, it is essential that the site looks as good when we leave as it did when we arrived so be prepared to take all your rubbish home and tidy as we go along.
